Prosperity

In Jeremiah 29:7, God said, “Seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.” This verse serves as a powerful reminder that no matter where we are, we are called to love, serve, and contribute to the place we find ourselves in. Timothy Keller expands on this idea, emphasizing that we should strive to make whatever city we live in great. “Serve your neighbors, though their language is different and they don’t believe what you believe.” He also explains that praying for the city is another way of saying we should love it, encouraging us to “love that city, pray for it, seek to make it a prosperous, peaceful city, the greatest place you live.”

This passage deeply resonated with me, particularly the line: “though their language is different and they don’t believe what you believe.” As someone currently living in Austria with limited German skills, these words stood out. There have been times when I hesitated to engage simply because of the language barrier. But after reflecting on this verse, I’ve realized that doesn’t matter. Serving others is serving others, no matter where I am. The work of the Lord is not limited by language, culture, or borders. If I seek peace and prosperity in Salzburg, I, too, may prosper.

This serves as a reminder for all of us that we can serve wherever we are. Whether in our hometowns, traveling abroad, or spending time with family. Seeking prosperity is not just about personal success but about uplifting the people and places around us.

I’m someone who thrives on setting and accomplishing new goals. It keeps life exciting for me. Something I am working on is: Love people where they are, so they may one day be influenced by your faith, even if they don’t believe in it yet.

Jesus set the ultimate example of this by dying for the sins of His enemies and praying for them. These past few days, I’ve learned that love and kindness are the foundation of a meaningful life. Holding onto that love is the key to perseverance whether facing challenges, disappointments, or mistreatment from others.

Learning to pick up the cross and keep moving forward is the only way.
